Course Overview

Just got your firearms licence and taking your first shots? Or have you held it a while but still don't have a system for getting genuinely better? Want to learn how to dry-fire properly, or how to handle the most common problems on the line? If any of that sounds like you, this course is exactly where you should start.

Pistol 1 is the natural next step once you hold a firearms licence. You'll work on weapon control and preparation, safe unloading, and the core of accurate shooting — grip, stance, sight picture and trigger control. From there we move on to what happens after the shot: safe re-holstering, the draw, and ready positions. We'll also walk you through what the next lesson covers and how to prepare for it. Every course opens with a short first-aid briefing focused on stopping severe limb bleeding.

Your instructors are qualified trainers and examiners with years of experience behind them. Complete the course and you'll walk away with a certificate of completion.

We run our courses at our range near I.P. Pavlova, usually in the evenings. When you're ready for more, Pistol 2 – Dynamic Shooting picks up where this one leaves off.

Need kit? We sell 9mm ammunition and lend out a limited number of holsters. Because clients bring so many different pistols fitted with red-dot sights, lights and other accessories, we can't guarantee a matching holster on the spot — but by arrangement we can kit you out with a suitable firearm, ammunition and holster for a fee. To borrow anything, just email us at least a day before the course.

What to bring

• Firearms licence - or by prior arrangement with your instructor
• A semi-automatic pistol - ideally your own; we can lend you one
• Two magazines - loaners available depending on the type
• A holster - outside-the-waistband ideally; we can lend one to suit your pistol
• A magazine pouch - loaners available to suit your pistol
• Your own ammunition - 300 rounds for your pistol (available to buy)
• Sturdy trainers - with ankle support if possible
• Shooting gloves - optional
• Eye and ear protection - free to borrow

A group place (4 hrs) is 250 EUR, or 500 EUR one-to-one.
Please note: ammunition isn't included — you can buy it at the range.

• Kit & setup - choosing a pistol, clothing, holsters and magazines
• Carrying a pistol - holster types and ways to carry
• Fundamentals - stance, grip, draw, racking, trigger control...
• Malfunction clearing - sorting out stoppages on the line
• Live-fire practice - shooting at varying distances and multiple targets...
• Dry fire - the principles and technique of dry practice
• Dynamic shooting - an introduction to moving with the pistol
